There are two common types of regulators: head control and pipe entry. Head control regulators are used for variable outlet pressure, while pipe entry regulators are installed inside the dripperline or sprinkler entry point. The latter is better suited for low-flow systems.

When selecting a pressure regulator, make sure to consider its inlet and output pressures. The inlet pressure of a pressure regulator must be at least 30 psi, while the output pressure should not exceed 80 psi. Anything higher than this will put undue stress on your drip irrigation system's fixtures and pipes, and can even damage it.
